Dream of the Red Chamber,also called The Story of the Stone,composed by Cao Xue’qin, is one of China's Four Great Classi-cal Novels. It was written sometime in the middle of the 18th century during the Qing Dynasty.
Considered a masterpiece of Chinese literature, the novel is generally acknowledged to be the pinnacle of Chinese fiction.
"Redology" is the field of study devoted exclusively to this work.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms, attributed to Luo Guan’zhong, is a historical novel set in the turbulent years towards the end of the Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history, starting in the oath of brotherhood in the Peach Garde-nand ending with the reunification of the land.While the novel follows about 2000 characters, the focus is mainly on the three power blocs that emerged from the remnants of the Han dynasty, and would eventually form the three states of Cao Wei, Shu Han, and Eastern Wu. The novel deals with the plots, personal and military battles,intrigues, and struggles of these states to achieve dominance for almost 100 years.

Journey to the West is a Chinese novel published in the 16th century during the Ming dynasty and attributed to Wu Cheng'en. The novel is an extended account of the legendary pilgrimage of the Tang dynastyBuddhist monk Xuanzang who traveled to the "Western Regions", that is, Central Asia and India, to obtain Buddhist sacred texts and returned after many trials and much suffering. Journey to the West has strong roots in Chinese folk religion, Chinese mythology, Taoist and Buddhist philosophy, and the pantheon of Taoist immor- tals and Buddhist bodhisattvas are still reflective of some Chinese religious attitudes today. Enduringly popular, the tale is at once a comic adventure story, a spring of spiritual insight, and an extended allegory in which the group of pilgrims journeys towards enlightenment by the power and virtue of cooperation.

Water Margin is a novel attributed to Shi Nai'an. It was based on the exploits of the outlaw Song Jiang, Wu Yong, Li Da, Wu Song, Lin Chong, Lu Zhi’shen and other his companions. The story tells of how a group gathers at Mount Liangto form a sizable army before they are eventually granted amnesty by the govern- ment and sent on campaigns to resist foreign invaders and suppress rebel forces. The work is known for its use of vivid, humor- ous and especially racy languages.
